Your journey into the domain of the scholar-practitioner begins here. You will learn what skills are necessary and what it means to earn a Doctorate. No organization can succeed without being managed, and you will graduate with a unique perspective on managerial and organizational success. Each student has the opportunity to learn independently from the classroom environment.

You are encouraged to begin building your Skills Inventory and Career Portfolio. This Portfolio will help you to identify your goals and key topics that interest you and relate to your Readings in management and your specializations.

This course will then prepare you for a journey that will take you from acquiring knowledge to becoming a creator of knowledge. During this course, you will build the skills needed to become a scholar.

Each week, you will be introduced to skills that will be used throughout your program of study and dissertation process. In this gateway course, you will discover a deeper understanding of—and make use of—reflective writing and critical thinking while learning how to assess the reputation of literature.

Learning Objectives

You will:

• Develop connections between PhD in Management Program Outcomes and personal goals
• Identify career options available to someone with a PhD in Management

Skills

You will develop the following skills:

• Accurately conveys basic information in a way that engages audiences interested in the topic, citing sources as appropriate
• Recognizes own obvious strengths and weaknesses and works to improve areas requiring immediate development
• Identifies occasional opportunities for positive changes to existing approaches, processes, or product
