“Good management is the art of making problems so interesting and their solutions so constructive that everyone wants to get to work and deal with them.”
—Paul Hawken
Management is interdisciplinary, and it draws insights from virtually every intellectual discipline. You have been introduced to many skills that are required by a scholar-practitioner. You have learned about the power of asking questions, reflecting on your beliefs and theories, synthesizing your ideas and the literature to develop new thoughts and question the validity of what you have read, and the importance of APA and writing with integrity.
Mastering skills such as critical thinking and reflective writing is critical to success. The Skills Development and Assessment Plan (SDAP) should be something you keep current throughout your program. This will help you to know that you are ready to tackle the self-directed Dissertation phase. In this week’s Discussion you will reflect on the role of the scholar practitioner. For the Final Project, you will create your first curriculum vitae (CV).
Learning Objectives
You will:
- Summarize insights related to management and management models
- Analyze relationships between current and some new management models and the future of the practice of management
- Prognosticate the future of management
- Analyze potential impacts of the future of management on social change
Skills
You will develop the following skills:
- Expertly integrates and synthesizes highly complex and ambiguous information into what is already known about a topic
- Analyzes complex relationships in information not outwardly related, identifying subtle relationships and patterns to uncover the bigger picture
- Proactively identifies numerous opportunities for positive changes to existing approaches, processes, and products, highlighting multiple avenues for impactful innovation

“My own ideals for the university are those of a genuine democracy and serious scholarship. These two, indeed, seem to go together.”
—Woodrow Wilson
The two articles in the recommended readings that introduced you to two new management models, Global Leadership and Transformational Leadership, are a starting point for this Discussion. In order to participate fully and be able to support your statements with appropriate references to the literature, you might review the recommended readings from previous weeks or conduct further research as needed.
Key Questions to Consider for Your Discussion

- How do you think leadership may change in the future?
- How can leadership styles contribute to social change?
