“Scientists tend to resist interdisciplinary inquiries into their own territory. In many instances, such parochialism is founded on the fear that intrusion from other disciplines would compete unfairly for limited financial resources and thus diminish their own opportunity for research.”
—Hannes Alfven

Discussion: Interdisciplinary View of Innovation Management
“The cross pollination of disciplines is fundamental to truly revolutionary advances in our culture. ”
—Neil deGrasse Tyson
Is the pursuit of innovation good? Does it improve and strengthen a nation’s ability to create a sustainable future, or does the opposite occur? Instead of speaking about innovation in general terms, in management, it is more useful to consider how innovation is managed, what role of interdisciplinary functions play, and what models support sustainable innovation. Such an examination can provide greater insight into the interdisciplinary nature of Innovation Management and test your critical thinking skills while you consider the effect of Innovation Management on social change.
Review the articles in the assigned readings, and consider the different aspects of a disciplinary approach to Innovation Management they present. What are the implications of each model for the individual, for management, and for society? Also, consider the implications of various Innovation Models on the practice of management.
Before you begin this Discussion, be sure to review the Readings and Media.
Discussion Goals
The goal of this Discussion is to analyze the various models and strategies of Sustainable and Conventional Innovation Management. The result is a proposal for a book chapter including an outline of subheadings, an annotated list of sources grouped by subheading, and rough drafts or bulleted items detailing the content of each subheading.
In this Discussion, you will collaborate with 3–5 colleagues to draft a book chapter proposal on a selected topic. Select one of the chapter titles by replying to the corresponding thread in the Discussion Forum for this week.
By Day 6: Book Chapter Proposal Post (one per group)
Select a groups spokesperson to post your book chapter proposal to the class Discussion Board.
Note: Plan with your Group an appropriate timeline to meet this deadline. Check the Hint below for suggested steps and timing.
By Day 7: Responses to Your Colleagues
